Salad green and spring tonic herb that grows everywhere and is considered a nuisance on most northern lawns; can be used as a coffee substitute; place fresh leaves in a bag with unripe fruit to ripen the fruit quickly; primarily used as a liver cleanser and healer, and a diuretic that does not deplete potassium from the body; use for all liver dis-eases and congestion, jaundice, hepatitis, cirrhosis, gallbladder function; increases bile production, spleen function; reduces side effects of drugs processed by the liver; diuretic and blood purifier for kidneys, urinary tract, cystitis, urinary and kidney stones and gravel, water retention, edema from high blood pressure and heart weakness; lowers total cholesterol, increases good HDL cholesterol, lowers triglycerides, balances and lowers blood sugar (hypoglycemia and diabetes); also for anemia, nervousness, spring tonic, laxative, stomach irritation, indigestion, heartburn, appetite stimulant, rheumatism, and joint pain; may improve beneficial bacteria in intestines; plant sap dabbed on repeatedly dissolves warts; cosmetic lotions fade freckles and clear skin, inflammatory skin conditions, acne, and eczema. Diuretic, tonic, stimulant, laxative. Minor side effects may include skin allergy, stomach upset, heartburn, diarrhea; use with expert advice with liver or gallbladder dis-ease; may worsen lithium side effects and interact with diuretics, blood thinners, and diabetes medications.
