Pervasive weed with high nutritional content, rich in vitamin C, a tasty salad green, also use steamed and in soups; use to cool hot conditions, moisturize dryness, and draw out toxins; external skin uses include rashes, infections, inflammations, ulcers, boils, carbuncles, abscesses, diaper rash, psoriasis, swelling, eczema, sores, scabs, itching, insect bites; dissolves warts and cysts; used in many skin-care preparations; used as an external poultice over the abdomen to cool the liver; also used as poultice for muscles cramps, tendonitis, rheumatism, hemorrhoids, earache; poultice and eyewash for inflamed eyes and conjunctivitis; internal use for lung congestion, bronchitis, coughs, hoarseness, asthma, whooping cough, expectorant; aids digestion and absorption of nutrients, balances intestinal flora, yeast overrun; bowel detoxifier; used for constipation, obesity, stomach ulcers, anemia; hormone balancer, douche for trichomonal vaginal infection, PMS; diuretic, water retention, cystitis, arthritis; liver tonic, reduces effects of alcohol abuse on the liver. Tonic, diuretic, expectorant, coolant, antioxidant, blood cleanser, wound healer. Extreme overuse can theoretically cause nitrate poisoning (weakness, headache, fainting, dizziness); should not be used internally in pregnancy, while nursing, or for infants; no known drug interactions.
